Resurgent Medvedev Secures First Championship in Nearly 30 Months

19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his first title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He defended four initial chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
